Parent Participation
St Mary's hopes that parents will:
¨ Be involved in school activities.
¨ Foster communication between teachers and parents.
¨ Encourage their children to work hard, by helping them and promoting the idea of family time.
¨ Pray with their children and instruct them according to their child’s needs in the context of moral values and reverence for the Commandments of God.
Help their children respect and appreciate their environment
The support of parents in school activities is both welcomed and expected.
Parents will find their own ways of expressing this involvement according to their circumstances but it is the responsibility of all parents to seriously consider this involvement annually.
Ways of assisting are many but support is always required in the following:
¨ Learning Assistance Program (L.A.P.)
¨ Class Parent’s Program
¨ Perceptual Motor Program (P.M.P.) - Prep and Year 1
¨ Class Masses and Paraliturgies
¨ Enjoying children’s formal assemblies
¨ Sports and Swimming Carnivals (trainers and helpers)
¨ Celebration and Feast Days
¨ Tuckshop helpers
¨ Book covering and library assistance
¨ Reading and story writing helpers
¨ Meals on wheels drivers
¨ Homework supervision
¨ P and F activities. Fundraising/working bees
¨ Grounds Committee
Banking supervisors etc.
A voluntary service is provided by parents under the coordination of a volunteer from the school community.
The Tuck Shop operates from Monday to Friday, unless otherwise informed.
HELPERS:
Assistance from parents, especially those newly enrolling children is always welcomed and sought and unless sufficient and regular help is offered the tuck shop service may need to be discontinued.
FOOD:
The Tuck Shop staff endeavour to provide balanced, nutritious food for students during both summer and winter seasons.
PRICES:
These are reviewed regularly and kept to a minimum. Lists are distributed to parents as changes occur, usually with the Newsletter.
ORDERS:
Child’s NAME, CLASS, and ORDER should be clearly written on or enclosed in a bag/envelope with money. Change is given in the bag if required. These orders are to be put into a CLASS BAG on arrival at school, they will be collected by 9.15 am.
REVENUE:
Tuck Shop revenue is collected within the Parents’ and Friends’ funds and ultimately assists the school with the purchase of equipment, minor maintenance etc.
Parents’ and Friends’ Association
St Mary’s fosters an active and hard working Parents’ and Friends’ Association. All parents are invited and urged to join this social and working group who meet monthly at the school on the 2nd Wednesday at 7.30 pm.
New families are particularly invited to come along to any function and meet other parents from the school.
The group discusses matters concerning parents, plan special and social occasions, conduct fund-raising ventures, invite guest speakers three times a year, occasional working bees to care for our premises, and to provide equipment.
The primary aims of the Parents’ and Friends’ Association are to support and encourage the Principal and staff, and to form a united group working for the good of the school and Parish, and to provide the school with a support group which can be called upon to help raise money for the needs of the school. These needs will be presented to the Parents’ and Friends’ Association by the Principal or Staff as they arise.
Through the Parents’ and Friends’ we aim to encourage a sense of belonging through social gatherings and similar functions.
School Board
St Mary’s School Board meetings are held monthly on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. The Board consists of the Parish Priest, Principal, Secretary, Treasurer, Parent and Community representatives who work in an advisory capacity to the Parish Priest and Principal
